MO-19 Lolangray

This terrazzo uses gray Portland cement as its base, with two layers of aggregate on the surface. The bottom layer is densely packed black and white fine chips measuring 0.5 to 1 cm, like a layer of coarse sand evenly scattered across the gray ground. Above this, some larger white natural marble fragments measuring 1 to 5 cm are embedded, noticeably bigger, occasionally emerging from the fine texture like white stones exposed on a shallow beach.

In terms of the surface effect, the fine chips are the main feature. Numerous black and white small chips are interspersed at high density, giving the gray cement base subtle shifts in light and shadow. The 1–5 cm large fragments serve to break the rhythm. They are irregular in shape—some with thick edges, others with thin, sharp fractures—with natural marble veining visible on the surface. Because of the marked size difference, the floor reads as a delicate gray-and-white texture from a distance; only up close can you make out the specific outlines of the large white fragments. Cement paste fills all voids solidly. After grinding and polishing, the fine chips, large fragments, and cement face sit at the same height, leaving the surface as a single flat plane that is smooth underfoot.

It is an inorganic, cement-based terrazzo. Once set, the slab is dense and heavy, with good hardness and compressive strength, suitable for high-traffic areas such as living rooms, corridors, and shopping malls. However, cement naturally has capillary pores. The surface must be sealed by crystallization; otherwise water and oil stains can penetrate and leave permanent marks. Therefore, crystallization treatment is required after installation, followed by periodic waxing. Daily cleaning requires only a damp mop.

The palette of a gray base with fine black and white chips and large white fragments leans cool and modern. At home, it works for living room and dining room floors, as well as kitchen countertops and bathroom walls. In commercial spaces such as showrooms, offices, retail stores, and libraries, it reads simple and enduring. Large slabs are cut to site dimensions, minimizing joints. Once laid and properly maintained, it is ready for use.
