MO-112 Espregray

This terrazzo uses gray Portland cement as its base, with the surface almost completely covered by a layer of extremely fine natural sand. The grains measure only 0.1 to 0.5 cm, smaller than a grain of rice, in two colors—white and gray—densely mixed into the cement.

Such fine aggregate gives the surface an exceptionally uniform appearance. From a distance, the floor reads like a tightly woven piece of gray linen, steady in tone without the visual jumps of large-chip terrazzo. Up close, countless tiny white and gray dots form a delicate texture across the cement base. The white sand brightens select areas against the gray background, while the gray sand blends naturally into the base. Together they add subtle layering to what would otherwise be a flat gray surface. The natural sand is screened to size, retaining original rounded or angular shapes, but because the scale is so small, the overall touch is fine and smooth, with only a hint of matte texture that does not snag.

It is an inorganic, cement-based terrazzo. Once set, the slab is dense and heavy in the hand, with hardness and compressive strength exceeding those of resin-based organic terrazzo, suitable for high-traffic areas such as living rooms, corridors, and shopping malls. However, cement naturally has capillary pores. Without crystallization sealing, liquids can penetrate and leave stains. Therefore, crystallization treatment is required after installation, followed by periodic waxing to maintain surface luster and stain resistance. Daily cleaning requires only a damp mop; no elaborate procedures are needed.

The palette of a gray base with fine white and gray sand is calm and modern, matching various decorative styles. At home, it works for living room and dining room floors, as well as kitchen countertops and bathroom walls. In commercial spaces such as offices, showrooms, retail stores, and libraries, it reads simple and enduring. Large slabs can be cut to site dimensions, minimizing joints. Once laid and properly maintained, it is ready for normal use.
