MO-22 Citygray

This terrazzo uses gray cement as its base, neither too dark nor too light, like concrete pavement on an overcast day. The surface is densely packed with white natural marble fragments ranging from 0.5 to 3 cm, mixing small and large pieces to fill the surface fairly full. These white stones are crushed directly from natural marble without artificial tumbling, so no two share the same shape. Some are thin flakes, others more like pebbles, with edges that are either sharp or blunt. Set into the gray cement, they look from afar like white patches sewn onto gray fabric; up close, each stone shows its natural veining, some pure white, others faintly bluish.

Because the chips are densely packed, the gray base only shows through the seams as fine gray lines separating the white stones. Cement paste fills all voids; once cured, it grips the stone firmly. After grinding and polishing, the slab is flat, with the white stones and gray cement sitting on the same plane. Walking is smooth, with no grooves to trap dust.

It is an inorganic, cement-based terrazzo, formed by Portland cement hardening. Once set, the slab is dense and heavy, with adequate hardness and compressive strength for high-traffic areas such as living rooms, corridors, and shopping malls. However, cement is naturally porous. The surface must be sealed by crystallization; otherwise water and oil stains will penetrate and leave permanent marks. Waxing every few months is needed to maintain the sheen. Daily cleaning requires only a damp mop.

The palette of a gray base with densely packed white fragments is quiet and enduring, matching various decorative styles. At home, it works for living room and dining room floors, as well as kitchen countertops. In commercial spaces such as offices, showrooms, retail stores, and school corridors, it reads clean and generous. Large slabs are cut to size, minimizing joints, and last well with proper crystallization and maintenance.
